Video Course Descriptions Astronomic Observations (1 PDH) this course covers the determination of azimuth from observation of Polaris at U.C., elongation, or at any hour. Calculation of time and hour angle. Boundary Law - Colonial States (4 PDHs) this course covers the general rules encountered in the colonial system (metes & bounds) such as senior rights, sequential & simultaneous conveyances, adverse possession, boundary agreements, weight of field evidence, etc. Boundary Law - Public Domain (4 PDHs) this course covers the legal aspects of surveying in the Public Lands including the establishment of the true parallel of latitude, convergence of the meridians, rectangular surveys, irregular surveys, subdivision of the Quadrangle, Township and Section, closing corners, proportionate measurement, etc. Construction Staking (4 PDHs) this course covers the pre-construction conference, field preparation, construction control, roughing in the roads, utility & curb staking, house staking, plot plan, foundation and final survey, as-built, street control, borrow pits & stockpiles, etc. Dendrology (Tree Identification) (2 PDHs) this course is conducted by Steve Roark of the TN Division of Forestry and consists of classroom and field identification by use of bark, leaf, and seed. Easement Law (4 PDHs) this course covers the creation, use and termination of easements, common law & statutory dedication, reversion rights, implied, estoppel, prescriptive, necessity easements, etc. Liability & Malpractice (1 PDH) this course covers the various liabilities that the surveyor takes on in the conduct of his business and methods of limiting exposure to risk. Land Contracts & Instruments (2 PDHs) this course covers the various instruments used to convey real property and interests in real property. Minimum Technical Standards - TN (CER-103-99) (1 PDH) this course covers the specific Minimum Technical Standards established by the TN Board. MS Code of Professional Conduct (1 PDH) this course covers the specific Code of Conduct established by the MS Board. MS Minimum Standards (1 PDH) this course covers the specific Minimum Standards for Mississippi Surveyors. Pricing your Services (6 PDHs) this course covers the establishment of a pricing structure, mark-up ratio, establishing hourly rates, estimating various survey projects, requests for proposal, etc. This course requires pricing and proposal submission with the exam. Public Record Research / Survey Reports (5 PDHs) this course covers some early TN history, researching at the Assessor's and Recorder's offices, searching chain of title, deed resolution, elements and necessity of a survey report, etc. This course requires submission of a survey report. Resolving the Boundary: (6 PDHs) in this course we review the initial set-up of the boundary file, public record research, deed resolution, field plots, weight and resolution of field evidence resulting in a resolved boundary. Small Business Operation (4 PDHs) this course covers the structure of your business, obtaining financing, initial investment determination, sources of capital, average collection period, managing & motivating, record keeping and pricing Tennessee Boundary Law (CER-573-03) (6 PDHs) this course covers specific boundary law that currently exists in TN. We discuss adverse possession, boundaries along water, roads, and railroads, weight of field and title evidence, deed interpretation, etc. This course is available to TN surveyors for credit or others for information or credit (depending on acceptability by your board) Tennessee Easement Law (CER-574-03) (6 PDHs) this course covers specific easement law that currently exists in TN. We discuss prescriptive, necessity, estoppel, grant, and implied easements, railroad right-of-way, dedication, eminent domain, abandonment and reversion. This course is available to TN surveyors for credit or others for information or credit (depending on acceptability by your board) Tennessee Surveyor Districts (CER-408-00) (1 PDH) this course discusses the early land development in Tennessee where the state was divided into districts for a more convenient method of registering title. Reqirements of the District Surveyor in surveying and mapping grants. This course is available to TN surveyors for credit or others for information or credit (depending on acceptability by your board) Water Law (3 PDHs) this course covers the location of the boundary along various water bodies, the rights and responsibilities of the riparian proprietor in the use of the water. Reversionary interests, right to accretion, loss by erosion, effects of avulsion, etc. Zoning & Land Use Law - TN (CER-170) (6 PDHs) this course covers the statutory guidelines under T.C.A.
